Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Pitcher whose shape and decoration indicate that it was made by Richard Remmey of Philadelphia.
Richard Remmey ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Rounded Rim, Tall Neck, Inscribed Shoulder, Bulbous Body, Rounded Footer, and Profuse Brushed Cobalt Decoration. Four Leaves Accent the Neck, and a Four Stem Plant fills the Front and Spills off to the Side. Bold cobalt throughout. Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the right side of the spout, and a 1" chip on the underside at the edge on the left side. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Mottled glaze on the left side in the making.
