    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Bowl.    made by "Foell & Alt, Corner Sarah & 26th Sts., South Side, Pitts." 

     

    The decoration indicates that this is the work of John Foell & Nicholas Alt who worked together in their pottery from 1857 to 1885. Their pottery was located on the corner of Sarah and 26th Streets in what was first Birmingham which later became a suburb of Pittsburgh (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 146). 

     

    Not many pieces from this pottery have survived. 

     

    This beauty features a Small Size, Rounded Rim and Grooved Rim for Tying a Cover Over the Top, Canted Sides, and a Top and Two Bottom Stripes Framing a Sideways Fuchsia Decoration.  Measures 5 1/2" tall adn 9 1/2" wide across the top.  

     

    Very Good Condition.  Two fine hairlines from the rim: 4" on the left side (closeup 1) and 2" on the right side (closeup 2).   No chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
