Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 2 Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Original Lid.
It is attributed to Peter Herrmann who made pottery on Eager Street in Baltimore from 1850-1872 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 98).
This beauty features a Thick Tooled Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and a Brushed Cobalt Double Clover on Each Side. The cobalt is rich and bold. The lid has petals around the knob to create a flower and eight brushed clover blossoms. The base is 6" tall and 12" wide. The lid is 13" in diameter.
Very Good Condition. The base has 4 small chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), a 1/2" chip above one handle, and chipping along the top edge on one side. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lid has two chips (3/8", 1/2") and two 1" hairlines at the rim. A series of faint surface lines with only one 4" line showing on both sides in the middle. No stains or restoration.
