Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fabulous 2 Gallon Jar whose decoration make it easy attribute to Isaac Hewitt.
Hewitt who made stoneware in Rices Landing, Pennsylvania in the 1860's and 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 158-159.
This beauty features Eight Cobalt Stripes down the Front that alternate between straght and wavy, with the Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves near the Bottom. This alternating stripe pattern and the outward moving leaves are standard features of Hewitt stoneware. Stands 12" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 2 1/2" hairline on the bottom in the back that wraps under 2 1/2" (closeup). That's it! No chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
