Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Pitcher attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Large Size, Semi-Squared Rim, Pinched Spout, Tall Neck, Bulbous Body, Footer, Applied Handle with Cobalt Accent, and Generous Cobalt Freehand Decoration. Leaves flank the spout and with three more on the left and two more on the right side. The body is graced by Two Large Tulips with Double Leaves, each with an additional leaf toward the back. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A faint little T hairline on the back bottom with a tail trailing off on the underside not even halfway. Otherwise, as made!
