Coming to you from Doc's Crocks are 2 Stoneware Jars attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania for 1 Money.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Dating to the 1870's, these beauty feature a Carefully Tooled Rim to Allow a Covering to be Tied Over the Top and Under the Rim, and Brushed Cobalt Decoration in the Distinctive Grier Style.
The taller one is a 1 1/2" gallon with two flowers. Stands 11" tall. A 2 1/4" drying/firing line inside as shown. No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The shorter on is 1/2 gallon with three leaves. It stands 8 1/2" tall. About 70% of the bottom came off to a depth of 1" and was reglued. Otherwise mint. 😁
