Item 6161
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Trio of 9" Spongeware Dinner Plates.
Based on signed examples, these are attributed to Ott and Brewer of the Etruria Pottery in Trenton, New Jersey. They made these plates from 1884 to 1893 (Gerald DeBolt, American Pottery Marks, p. 109).
These beauties feature a Scalloped Edge with Embossed Scroll Border, and Flow Sponging. The embossed scrolling is easily visible. They are the dinner plate size measuring 9" in diameter.
Excellent Condition. All three are lightly used. The plate on the left has a pinhead-size nibble on the rim and a 3/4" glazed chip on the edge in the making (closeup 1). The plate in the middle has a pinhead-size nibble on the edge and a 1/4" firing line at the edge in the making (closeup 2). The plate on the right has slight discoloration on one spot, but it appears to be in the making and not a stain. Otherwise all three are as made.
