Item 8114
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Crock stamped "Ithaca, N.Y."
This is surely the mark of the potter James Macumber who ran the pottery in Ithaca with several partners from 1864-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Swirled Circle Atop a Drop 8 Decoration-- all filled in with Dots! Measures 12 1/2" tall and 13" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1" surface ping line on the left handle. 1" chip inside the rim and under the right handle that are neatly filled should you want to make an unnecessary cosmetic touchup (closeups), and a few scattered flakes on the bottom of the left side. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or stains.
