Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 6 Gallon Stoneware Crock from Ohio.
It has been attributed to the Schrop Pottery of Springfield Township, Ohio (see F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, pp. 80-82).
Dating around 1880, this beauty features a Freehand Capacity Number Framed by Squiggles and a Large and Elaborate Fishing Lure Decoration. Although it may be an unusual flower, it is commonly known as a fishing lure. Bold cobalt on a warm gray salt glaze. Measures 13 1/2" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Some water glass staining inside from use, a shallow 3/4" chip on the left handle, and a 5" surface-only glaze vertical line near the tail of the lure (closeup) . No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, outer staining or restoration.
