Item 6336
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Lidded Storage Jar or Churn whose decoration indicates that it was made by Asa Smith, his son Asa, and Howard Hobart who worked in Norwalk, Connecticut from about 1849 to the early 1860's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 58-60).
This beauty features the Storage Jar or Churn Form with a Tall Rim and Recessed Rim for a Lid, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip in Bright Cobalt Blue. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Even wear and minor nibbles on the seating ring for the lid inside, a 1/4" chip inside the rim, and some faint and scattered water glass staining from use. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The lid has a chip on the side of the knob and a 2" hairline from the rim. Hot spot on the left side toward the back in the making.
