    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this highly decorated 1 Gallon Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

     

    Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

     

    Dating about 1840, this beauty features a Tall Form, Rounded Rim, Tooled Shoulder, and Three Brushed Cobalt Floral Decorations around the Middle in Three Versions of the Same Flower.  There is a tall version top to bottom with four blossoms, a single stem version with two larger blossoms, and a single stem version with a single blossom.  All the cobalt is rich and dark and set against a light gray glaze to make a very pleasant contrast.  Stands 10 1/2" tall.  

     

    Exceptional Condition.  As made.  No damage of any kind.  Stone ping on one side in the making.
