Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Ballard & Brothers, Burlington, VT."
This is one of the pottery stamps of the brothers Alfred, Orrin, and Hiram Ballard who made stoneware in Burlington, Vermont from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 45-46).
This beauty sports a Tall and Slender Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Floral with Ground Cover, Four Big Dotted Leaves, Swirly Stems, and Two Blossoms. Stands 14" tall.
Good Condition. Three chips: Right side of the spout (1"), under the handle (3/4"- closeup), and underside (1"). Scattered light staining. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Small chip above the pottery stamp and short line above the chip under the handle are in the making.
