Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Ballard & Brothers, Burlington, VT."
This is one of the pottery stamps of the brothers Alfred, Orrin, and Hiram Ballard who made stoneware in Burlington, Vermont from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 45-46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and an Amazing Large and Fancy Floral with a Swirly Stem with Four Equally Swirly Leaves and a Blossom with Five Petals containing Three Dots Each. The jug is very tall and narrow and the floral nicely centered to run right up the middle. All the artistry is created with a slip cup in bright cobalt. Exceptional. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. In the making: two horizontal outer surface only drying lines on the handle (closeup), stoneping on the right side, and a small kiln touch on each side.
