Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "Ballard & Brothers, Burlington, VT."
This is one of the pottery stamps of the brothers Alfred, Orrin, and Hiram Ballard who made stoneware in Burlington, Vermont from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 45-46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp on the Shoulder and an Unusual Glaze that is Milk Chocolate on the top, Dark Chocolate in the Middle, and a Matted Black and Speckled on the Bottom. Comes with a form-fitting, hand-turned wooded lid. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A few minor nibbles on the inner lid-seating ring. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lighter rim and top of one handle are glaze skips in the making.
