    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar whose decoration indicates it was made by the Black Pottery of Somerfield, Pennsylvania. 

     

    George and Albert Black ran the pottery in Somerfield in the 1860's and 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 105-106).

     

    This beauty features a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, and a Garland of Three Brushed Cobalt Tulip Blossoms.  Each tulip has five petals in the Black style.   Stands 12 1/2"" tall. 

     

    Excellent Condition.  Four small chips inside the rim (1/8" to 1/2"), and a 3/8" chip on the underside at the edge.  That's it!  No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
