Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar whose decoration indicates it was made by the Black Pottery of Somerfield, Pennsylvania.
George and Albert Black ran the pottery in Somerfield in the 1860's and 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 105-106).
This beauty features a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, and a Garland of Three Brushed Cobalt Tulip Blossoms. Each tulip has five or six petals in the Black style. Stands 13 1/2"
Good Condition. Amateur restoration of one handle (closeup 1). A 1" narrow chip on the face of the other handle. A faint line across the base coming up 1" and then horizontally left and right 5" (closeup 2). No rim or base chips.
