Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Spongeware Maple Syrup Jug.
In raised letters on the bottom it reads, "Mfg.'d by F. H. Weeks, Akron, O., XXX Patent Pending." This is the mark of Frederick Weeks who ran the pottery in Akron from the early 1870's and in partnership with his brother in the late 1870's. ( F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware , pp. 51-52).
This jug came in 3 sizes- 1/2, 1, and 2 gallon. This is the 1/2 gallon size.
This beauty features a Fancy Molded Top , the Oval Label reading5"Grandmother's Maple Syrup of 50 Years Ago," Overall Blue Sponging, and Original Bail Handle. Stands 6" tall.
Don't you just love the look back to around 1830 as the good old days!
Excellent Condition. A flat 3/8" chip on the underside of the footer at the edge. That's it! No top chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Typical manufacturing imperfections.
