Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Fantastic Blue and White Spongeware Umbrella Stand.

Dating to the end of the 19th century, this beauty is Hand-Turned on a Pottery Wheel and Features a Rounded Rim and Base and Gorgeous and Delicate Blue and White Sponging Top to Bottom. Stands 20" tall and is 9 1/2" wide.

Based on signed spongeware I have encountered in Ohio, this piece is likely the work of the U.S. Stoneware Company of Akron, Ohio. See F. Robert Treichler, More History of Ohio Stoneware, pp. 27-31.

Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A manufacturing flaw in the making at the rim that is all glazed over (closeups).

If you don't want to use it for umbrellas, you can always use it to display tall foliage in a corner with a little flare!
