Item 6435
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Salt Crock in the Eagle Pattern.
This beauty features a Rope and Tassel Top and Bottom Border that Frames "Salt" Embossed on the Front and Flanked by a Pair of Eagles in Flight Carrying a Shield with Stripes and Stars-- all on an Orange Peel Background. The lid repeats the rope and tassel border on the orange peel background. Gorgeous diffused coloration as you can see! Strong mold lines iindicating very early use of the mold too! Measures 5 3/4" tall to the top of the hanger, and 6" wide across the base.
You can find a fine writeup on this item in Taylor and Lowrance's, Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware, p. 130.
Excellent Condition. The base has a minor ping inside the rim (closeup 1). Otherwise as made. The lid has a shallow 3/8" chip on the edge (closeup 2). Otherwise as made.
One of the finest examples of this salt crock that I have ever seen.
