Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 1 Gallon Jar made for the merchant, "C. E. Ellis & Son, Big Bargain Cash Store, Newburg, W. Va."
Newburg is a small town of 275 located south of Morgantown. It was named Newburg because it was a new settlement on the railroad. Apparently, it once boasted this ambitious merchant.
Circa 1900 to 1920, this jar features a Tooled and Lid, Brown Top, Cream Bottom, and the Company Advertising Stenciled on the Side. Once had a bail handle.
Excellent Condition. A minor nibble on the inner lid seating ring, a 1/4" chip on the rim in the back, and two adjacent 3/8" chips on the bottom edge. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lid has a 3/8" chip on the underside at the edge.
