Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "C. W. Braun, Buffalo, N.Y."
This is the mark of Charles W. Braun who ran the old Heiser pottery in Buffalo from 1857-1896 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 75).
Dating around 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Capacity Number Underscored with Dots and Dashes, and a Folk Art Floral Decoration. The floral has two laege leaves with curvy edges and striped centers as well as two blossoms that look like butterflies. Measures 11 1/4" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Chippage along the top of the rim above the left handle that appears to be in partially in the making (closeup), and a quarter-size chip on the underside at the edge. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
