Item 10384
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "C. Tupper."
This is the mark of Chauncey Tupper who made pottery near Mogadore and Rootstown, Ohio in the mid-19th century (F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, pp. 72-73).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, an Inscribed "2" Capacity Number, and the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash. Tupper did not decorate his pottery. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Comes from the collection of F. Robert Treichler that I purchased portions of this year.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/4" chip inside and a minor nibble outside the spout, and some staining near the base from use. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Kiln touches on the shoulder in the making.
