Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Chollar, Darby & Co., Cortland."
This is the work of Thomas Chollar and Joseph Darby who owned the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1835 to 1849 when Darby retired and the pottery was sold to Madison Woodruff (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 313-319).
This beauty sports a Small Size, Early Ovoid Form, and Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash. Stands 8 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A nibble on the inner lid seating ring, two inside the rim, and one outside the rim- all 3/16", a 1/4" chip on the base, and a single stain. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
