    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug whose form and decoration indicate that it was made by David Clark of Cornwall, Orange County, New York.

     

    David Clark ran his pottery in Cornwall, New York at least by 1811.  He is the father of the more famous Nathan Clark of Athens, NY.  The jug is nearly identical to one in the Rochester Museum and Science Center pictured in William C, Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 125-129 from which this information comes).  

     

    Circa 1815, this beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Rounded Rim, Reeded Neck, and Brushed Cobalt Leaf on the Shoulder,  Stands 13 1/2" tall

     

    Excellent Condition. A 3/4" chip on the underside at the edge, and some light staining.  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
