Item 10657
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar attributed to Connecticut circa 1820.
From my research for similar form and decoration, I attribute this jar to Peter Cross who potted in two locations in Hartford, Connecticut from 1805 to 1822 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 90).
This beauty features an Ovoid Shape with Tall and Slightly Flared Rim, Tooled Shoulder, and a Very Elaborate Incised Decoration. The decoration includes 13 leaves that support a center swirl blossom in the center and a head of grain on the far right. All the decoration is accented with internal dashes and washed in a light blue. Measures 9" tall and 7" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Eight small nibbles on the rim (1/8" to 1/4") and some light glaze wear in the middle. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
