Item 3190
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA.
Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).
Circa 1840, this beauty features a Rolled Rim with a Garland of Alternating Five Leaves and Four Sets of Clovers. This is a very pleasing and identifiable Remmey decoration. Strong cobalt throughout the design which contrasts nicely with the light gray glaze. Stands 11 7/8" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/4" flake near the base, and a minor narrow 1/4" clay void on the shoulder where a piece of straw burned away during the firing. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1" drying/firing line inside in the making (closeup).
