Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Pitcher from Baltimore, Maryland.
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Tall Neck with Ridged Rim and Pinched Spout, Bulbous Body, and Brushed Cobalt Decoration in the Clover Motif. The rim sports 3 Leaves, and the body sports a plant with 2 base leaves from which emerge 2 stems, each with 4 leaves and 4 clover blossoms. Additional cobalt on the handle terminals. Rich, shiny cobalt on a light gray glaze for strong contrast. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Small restoration for what appears to be a 1/2" chip on the outside of the left side of the spout in the first groove of the tooled rim (closeup 1). No other chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Short surface drying/firing lines on the top of the handle (closeup 2), front of the spout (closeup 3), and inside the rim on the left side (closeup 4). All in the making. One line inside partially shows outside at the shoulder (closeup 4), but is still in the making.
