Item 10166
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jar Decorated with a Garland of Leaves.
The form and decoration make it easy to attribute this jar to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1860, this beauty features an Ovoid Shape, Tall Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Bulbous Base, Rounded Footer and Two Large Brushed Cobalt Leaves on Each Side. Additional cobalt decoration around the handles. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Good Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the rim and some light staining. A hairline all around the top of the footer which may be a firing line late in the firing (?).
