Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Stoneware Jar easily attributed to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Circa 1860, this beauty features an Ovoid Form, Tooled Rim, Applied Grooved Handles with Cogalt Accents, a Wavy Line at the Shoulder and a Large Double Tulip on Both Sides.  Cinnamon Glaze.  Stands 13 3/4" tall.

Very Good Condition.  A 3/4" chip at the base, and a faint 7" hairline below one handle that wraps under 3" (closeup).  It is very hard to see because of the color of the glaze.  No rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
