Item 6297
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jar with Lots of Freehand Decoration.
I cannot determine its originals very precisely because I cannot find a picture of a similar jar from this period. However, the decoration has elements of decoration from Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, Slightly Ovoid Form, Applied Handles and Freehand Decoration in Two Rows. The top row features upward flowing vining with dangling leaves that looks like a drape and tassel design. The bottom row features vining that alternates between sweeping up and sweeping down and encircles the jar. All the cobalt is rich and shiny. Stands 13" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3" line inside that stops at the rim (inside picture), one chip on one handle (3/8") and two on the other (1/4", 1/2"), chips around the small footer, and a couple glaze rubs. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
