Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Covered Cake Crock with Tulip Garland.

It is easy to attribute this crock to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Circa 1870, this beauty features a Tooled Squared Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and a Brushed Cobalt Garland of Three Sideways Tulips on Each Side.  Strong cobalt on a light gray glaze for pleasing contrast.  The lid features brushed cobalt comma vining around the edge.  Measures 5 1/4" tall and 9 3/4" wide across the top.

Good Condition.  Some plaster residue inside, five chips outside the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), a narrow 1/2" chip on one handle, and scattered glaze exfoliation (closeup 1).  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  The lid has a fine hairline from the rim to near the center knob and a 2" chip on the underside near the edge (closeup 2).  No stains or restoration.
