Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Harvest Jug from Ohio.
Dating around 1880, this beauty featueres a Roped Handle Poised on Leaves, the Filling and Drinking Spouts, an Applied Decoration of a Greek Goddess under one spout and a Cluster of Grapes under the other spout, and a Large Floral Blossom on Each Side. Rich chocolate coloration. Stands 12" tall.
Excellent Condition. A tiny 3/16" flake inside the drinking spout. That's it! No other chips or any hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some roughness at the base from touching another piece in the kiln.

Fine Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Harvest Jug with Elaborate Applied Grape, Floral, and Classical Figure Motifs, Ohio origin, circa 1885, wheel-thrown, domed form with applied wide and narrow pouring spouts, the handle molded in the form of a twisted rope atop leaves and a central floral finial. Front of jug with molded and applied classical figure, possibly representing Diana, Goddess of the Hunt. Reverse decorated with a large molded and applied grape vine motif. Sides of jug further decorated with relief floral motifs. Surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip glaze. Very nice condition with a small chip and tiny reglued piece to tip of smaller spout. H 11 3/4".
