Coming to you from Doc's  Crocks is this uncommon Scratch Mini Jug with the two dates "1492" and "1892" framing the word "Columbus."

This jug was made by Edward Lincoln Norton who ran the Norton Pottery in Bennington, Vermont from 1886 to its closing in 1894 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44).

Norton produced mini jugs from the nation's centennial in 1876 and later events.  This mini was made to celebrate the 400th year of Columbus discovering the Americas.  There is also another version with the date 1893 which was made as a souvenir for the World Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. The Norton mini jug with the 1892 date is much harder to find.

Excellent Condition.  Three minor pinhead-size nibbles in the glaze on the spout.  Otherwise as made!
