Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug stamped "Cortland."

The decoration on this jug makes it easy to attribute to Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland from 1849-1885. (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).

This beauty sports an Inscribed Shoulder, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Double Tulips.  The tulips are dotted and emerge from two veined leaves, the bottom one of which is surrounded by dots.  The decoration was executed with a slip cup and brush in bright and shiny cobalt. Stands 10 3/4" tall.

Very Good Condition.  A very faint hairline near the bottom of the handle (closeup), a minor 3/8" chip on the bottom of the right side, and some light staining from use.  No spout chips, body hairlines or cracks, or any restoration.
