    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."

     

    This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).

     

    Thus beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tobacco Leaf Decoration.  Stands 11 3/4" tall.  

     

    Very Good Condition.  Small chips around the inner lid-seating ring and inside the rim and a small faint stain by the right handle.  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some fine bubbles in the thicker part of the cobalt in the making.
