Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).
Thus beauty features a Larger Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Floral. The floral sports 6 leaves at the base, and four stems-- three of which hold flowers in full bloom and one a bud. Generous application of bright and shiny cobalt with a brush. Stands 14 3/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Some fine bubbles in the thickest part of the cobalt in the making.
