    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox."

     

    This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).

     

    Thus beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents at the Terminals, and a Brushed Cobalt Plant.  The plant sports two base leaes, three branches with three leaves each, and a blossom at the top to the right.  Stands 9 1/2" tall. 

     

    Very Good Condition.  Chips on the inner ring where the lid is seated, a faint "w" shaped hairline on the rim (closeups), and some light staining from use.  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.  A small stone ping and clay void on the left handle in the making.
