Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Cuspidor Spittoon made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."

This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).

As you know, the spittoon is not a common form for this maker.

One one side this beauty features a Chrysanthemum Blossom Around the Drain Opening which is Framed on the Sides by Floral Blossoms.  On the other side this piece sports a Large Chrysanthemum Blossom Framed by Leaves.  Each handle has cobalt accents at the terminals and a leaf below.  Measures 5" tall and 9 1/4" wide across the top.

Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind.  Looks like the day it came out of the kiln.
