Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is wonderful Decorated 2 Gallon Stoneware Butter or Cake Crock.
The decoration strongly indicates that this crock was made by James M. Hickerson who ran his pottery in Strasburg, Virginia from 1884-1898 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 298-301.
This beauty features Freehand Undulating Vining with Flower on Each Side. Lots of leaves and a many petals on the floral. Great visual appeal and more elaborate than other Hickerson pieces. Measures 7 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Seven small chips around the outside of the rim (1/8" to 3/8"), a 3/8" chip on one handle, two chips at the base (1/4", 1"), and a dozen scattered chips on the body (1/8" to 3/8"). No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
