Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this little 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "E. & L. P.. Norton, Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44).
This beauty features a Small Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Freehand Leaf Decoration. Measures only 9" tall and 10 1/4" wide across the top.
Good Condition. Five chips around the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), a faint 3" hairline behind the left handle, and some scattered small stains. No inner rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration. Bubbles in the cobalt in the making.
