Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 3 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)
This crock sports a Thick Rim, Clear Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Bird Perched on a Large Leaf. Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11 1/4"wide across the top.
Fair Condition. A couple nibbles inside the rim, four chips outside the rim (1/4" to 1"), two chips under the left handle (1/2" 1"), a 4" vertical crack at the base on the left side, a 4" hairline from the rim on the right side, and staining from use. No base chips or restoration.
