Item 10608
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this imposing 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird on a Floral Bouquet in Strong Cobalt. The bird is 8 1/2" from the tip of his or her beak to the tip of the tail feathers. The bouquet of flowers is more elaborate than most found on jugs by this maker. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A faint stain run. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
