Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this impressive 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton who ran the Norton Pottery in Bennington from 1881-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features a Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Freehand Stylized Floral Bouquet. The cobalt is shiny and really stands out! Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1/2" chip and associated 1/2" surface line at the base, and some light staining from use. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A couple 1 1/2" vertical drying/firing lines at the base in the back in the making.
