Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "E. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton who ran the Norton Pottery in Bennington from 1881-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Brushed Cobalt Floral Bouquet. The cobalt is shiny and really stands out! Measures 9" tall and 10 1/4" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 3/8" chip inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. In the making: a shallow inverted Y-shaped glaze scratch inside (closeup) and a stone ping near the bottom.
