Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this very nice 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "E. W. Farrington, Elmira , N.Y."
This is the mark of E. Ward Farrington who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1887-1893 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 75).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip. The tulip has 8 leaves and a blossom with 12 petals. Stands 14 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three small 3/16" chips inside and one outside the spout, and a 1" chip on the bottom of the left side. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Small dots of molten iron from the clay in the glaze, and some bubbles in the cobalt in the making.
