Item 9700
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Pitcher made and stamped by "F. B. Norton, Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Frank Norton who operated the pottery in Worcester from 1858 to 1886, and was the stamp after 1877 when his partner, Frederick Hancock, left the business (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
This beauty features a Great Form with Tall Rim and Bulbous Base, the Pottery Stamp, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Swirl Floral Decoration. This is one of Norton's signature decorations and the bright cobalt that you come to expect from the Norton Pottery. On the light clay background the decoration really makes for a great contrast and visual appeal. Stands 12" tall.
Good Condition. A chip on the back of the rim (shallow 1 1/2" on top and 1/2" on the side), a 1/2" chip on the footer, and two faint hairlines on the right side (3" from the rim - closeup 1, and 2" at the base- closeup 2). No cracks, stains, or restoration.
