Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Parrot on a Plume made and stamped by "F. B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."

This is the mark of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1858-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).

This beauty features a Rounded Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large Parrot on a Fancy Plume Decoration.  This was one of Norton's signature decorations and is typically found with gorgeous cobalt like this crock exhibits.  This larger size crock allows the parrot to be 9" from head to tail!  The plume matches the parrot in large size.  Measures 11" tall and 12 1/2" across the top.

Very Good Condition.  Waterglass staining inside, four chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1 1/4"), three 1/4" chips outside the rim, and some staining from use.   No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  In the making: a kiln touch to the right of the decoration, and a surface drying/firing line inside in the making that shows 2" outside under the rim by the left handle and is glazed over (closeup).
