Item 10477
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Tabletop Churn made and stamped by "F. B. Norton Sons, Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Frank Norton and his Sons who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1868-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
This beauty features a Petite Tabletop Size, the Pottery Stamp on the Shoulder, and Bright Cobalt Dove on a Plume Decoration. This was one of Norton's signature decorations and is typically found with gorgeous cobalt like this churn exhibits. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor wear on the inner seating ring for the lid, five small chips inside the rim (3/8" or less). That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A surface 1/2" line on the rim in the front to the right, a stone ping on the far left of the plume, and a 2 1/2" line on the bottom in the back that wraps under 1" --- all in the making and glazed over.
