Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Spongeware Maple Syrup Jug.
In raised letters on the bottom it reads, "Mfg.'d by F. H. Weeks, Akron, O., Style XXX, Pat. Pending." This is the work of Frederick Weeks who ran the pottery in Akron in the early 1870's and later in partnership with his brother in the late 1870's ( F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware , pp. 51-52).
This jug came in 3 sizes- 1/2, 1, and 2 gallon. This is the 1/2 gallon size.
This beauty features a Fancy Molded Top, Blue and White Sponging, and the Original Bail Handle. Stands 5 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/8" nibble on the bottom edge. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Lack of glaze on top of the spout and center knob in the making from touching another piece in the kiln in the making.
