    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "F. Stetzenmeyer, Rochester, N.Y."

     

    This is the mark of Frederick Stetzenmeyer who ran his pottery in Rochester from 1849 to about 1860 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

     

    This beauty sports a Tall and Narrow Semi-Ovoid Form, the Stetzenmeyer Pottery Stamp, Freehand Capacity Number 2, and a Bright Floral Executed with a Slip Cup.  The floral has five leaves and two blossoms.  All the decoration is accented with stripes for a 3-D effect.  Stands 16" tall.

     

    Very Good Condition.  On the spout: two pings on the front (closeup), a 1/4" flake on the back, and a 1" surface craze line on the right side.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some bubbles in the cobalt on the left side of the decoration in the making.
